About Conan Labs

Conan Labs is a company born from the COVID-19 pandemic. After moving to online teaching, we were inspired by tools used in other industries where conversations are digitised and then mined for patterns. We know these tools could be used by teachers to help understand student engagement and so started the company to help bring this to market and realise.

Conan Labs will form the bridge between the online (and sometimes in person) lectures and help ascertain that students are engaged and that their mental health is OK.

We have won funding for our proof of concept and are now looking to develop our MVP to bring to market.

Job description

We are looking for a motivated full stack developer based in the UK (sorry we can’t accept any international candidates due to the terms of our funding) to work with our management team to help build out our MVP.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to help us architect an application from the ground up without the need to worry about any existing bugs or legacy debt.

As the first developer at Conan labs you will be responsible for working with our CTO in order to create a core application and set up integrations to other platforms to ingest the data, process it and then output user-friendly reports for our soon to be clients.

We will be focusing on bringing a core application to market first before expanding out to begin to introduce AI to help identify where students who might need additional help before its too late.

Responsibilities

• Create the core platform for Conan labs using PHP and Laravel.
• Collaborating with other members of the team to help realise the Conan Labs vision.
• Setting up and managing test and production environments
• Create clean, maintainable, extendable, and testable code.
• Checking your code to detect and remedy errors and omissions.
• Testing outputs to ensure that they are in excellent working order.
• Deploying developments with ongoing monitoring to ensure correct operation.
• Using feedback to inform the creation of subsequent versions of each development.
• Stay up to date with modern practices and technologies relevant to the role.
• Be a generally awesome person!

Requirements

• At least 5 years experience in web development.
• At least 3 years experience in PHP and Laravel.
• Experience working with at least 1 modern JS framework.
• Know how to use Git.
• Ability to convert specifications into pragmatic code and user-friendly application.
• Experience with testing methods including, unit, integration, and regression with relevant technologies.
• Ability to work well independently and self motivate.
• Exceptional communication skills both written and verbally.
