As an Android Software Engineer, you will design and implement high-quality mobile applications

Role overview

IO Global is looking for a Scala Software Engineer to join its Atala team. In Atala, we are developing Prism, a digital identity and verifiable credentials product. We are building a platform with a solid technical foundation that can be tailored to the needs of many businesses. We have clients and many opportunities, and we need software professionals with excellent personalities, solid technical foundations, and experience to join a fast-paced team. You will help us design, implement and deliver.

We start from product requirements and design in the Atala team and implement a solution that we own end-to-end. We do protocols, services, applications and even create infrastructure and deployment plans, fully automating everything in the process. We have built an architecture on top of Cardano, our flagship blockchain, but our core architecture is blockchain-agnostic. The team is distributed around the globe.

We use Scala for the backend and Kotlin to define an SDK for four platforms (JVM, Android, iOS, web). We build applications for the web, Android, and iOS. Our infrastructure is currently defined in Terraform and runs in AWS; we are experimenting with Nomad and Kubernetes for orchestrating our services. We have an automated test suite, and we are applying continuous integration (CI) practices.

Your mission

As an Android Software Engineer, you will design and implement high-quality mobile applications in close collaboration with our Product team. You are well versed in the Android platform and the Kotlin language. Your attention to detail is exemplary, and you are strong in coding. And last but not least, you like and know how to deliver software incrementally.

Duties will include:

Design and implement features
Review contributions from other engineers
Analyze requirements, break down work, and help prioritize it
Plan for incremental software development
Deliver according to agile best practices
Communicate and analyze technical details.

Requirements

Your expertise

A minimum of 2-3 years development experience (professional or otherwise) in Scala.
Experience working with Git and Git workflow
Practical experience with Agile software development methods
Knowledge of functional and object-oriented programming paradigms
Skills relevant for a software engineer specialized in Scala
Advanced knowledge of the Scala type system.
Familiarity with frameworks such as ScalaPB, Scalacheck, Scalatest,
Scala.js, doobie, testcontainers, sttp
A degree in Computer Science is desirable but not essential
Likable personality with soft skills
Excellent communication (technical and non-technical)
Incremental software delivery
Functional and Object-oriented programming
Analytical, synthetic, and scientific thinking.
