The EU Retail Tech & Analytics Team leverages qualitative insights and offers quantitative business analytics

Role overview

Are you excited about being at the leading edge of Wayfair’s commercial strategy, building the approach that will enable Wayfair to succeed both today and in the future?

Who We Are

The EU Retail Technology & Analytics (EURTA) team leverages qualitative insights, quantitative business analytics, cutting-edge tools and business process improvements to drive growth across Wayfair. This entrepreneurial team acts as a thought-partner for executive leadership and leads the charge on major strategic initiatives. Simply put, if you’re interested in defining and driving the Wayfair strategy, EURTA is for you.

This role is focused on supporting Wayfair’s Premium Brand strategy. As we look to offer our customers “a zillion things home,” we have to determine how to show our customer which of those zillion things she’ll love. Enter our Premium Brands, which leverage best in class analytical techniques to curate products from our 1,000s of suppliers into ~80 style and price-point driven brands. Combined, these brands comprise ~80% of Wayfair’s revenue and are a key enabler of our sustained success.

Bringing these brands to life requires determining which products and suppliers should get this coveted shelf space, and then negotiating to ensure only the best of the best make it in -- that’s where you come in. At its core, this role will be focused on arming your stakeholders with the data and tools needed to effectively execute on our Premium Brand strategy. This includes providing Premium Brand leadership with a data-driven view of monthly negotiations to facilitate strategic decision making and equipping Category Management with the analytical and reporting tools they need to drive impact across their categories and Wayfair’s bottom line. This position will require working cross-functionally and globally to uphold best-in-class standards for implementation, while also providing a distinct opportunity to drive high-impact initiatives with unique executive-level visibility.

How is this opportunity unique?

Wayfair is a data-driven environment. Candidates with experience using data to drive decision-making are great matches.

We move fast and take risks. If you loved working at a start-up or in another fast-paced, risk-taking environment, you’d enjoy working at Wayfair. Be prepared to constantly evolve.

Our business is in a high-growth stage and so is our team. We’re looking for team members who are ready and eager to get their hands dirty and drive results right away.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the connective tissue between suppliers, Category Management, and product / tech team in external tool development for Premium Brand strategy:

  • Engage with users by providing product support, communicating our strategy, socializing feature enhancements and sharing best practices
  • Engage with product and tech teams by coordinating user feedback and representing our users interests in prioritization and roadmap discussions
  • Maintain resources to enable effective execution by Category Management (ie: training sessions / office hours, maintaining a robust Q&A / escalation channel, maintaining FAQs and pitch collateral)
  • Partner with other analysts and Product and Engineering teams to set up the “engine” behind negotiation target generation, including but not limited to SKU selection, business logic, and operational workflows
  • Publish reports on monthly negotiation progress, defining benchmarks and surfacing trends for executive review or strategic consideration
  • Collaborate with North American counterparts to develop a global reporting framework (and supporting data structures, with ownership of European data tables) to enable streamlined approach across geographies

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record in economics, math, statistics, engineering, business or related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in a similar role. Candidates from top tier consulting firms and entrepreneurial mindset are highly appreciated
  • Strong analytical skills: Advanced Excel and SQL/GBQ skills; experience with other data analysis/exploration tools a plus (Looker, Google Data Studio, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills: ability to succinctly summarize and tailor your communication style to your audience (e.g., senior business stakeholders versus technical product teams)
  • Strong problem-solving skills: ability to dissect and determine root causes, and vet/prioritize potential solutions (near- and long-term) and implement solutions quickly without sacrificing quality
  • Strong quantitative skills: ability to develop analytical methodologies and assumptions, use data software to conduct analyses, vet and pressure-test data, and synthesize findings

Location

Berlin is the capital and the largest city in Germany and well-known for its amazing festivals, exciting nightlife and a high quality of living. With a population of 3.7 million it is only second to London in the Europe Union, even with one-third of the city's area being composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers, canals and lakes. Berlin is a city with a deep history, Bismarck, Marx, Einstein, JFK and Bowie, they’ve all shaped – and been shaped by – Berlin.

Often referred to as Europe's newest start-up capital, a new start-up is founded every 20 minutes. The startup industry is set to produce 100,000 new jobs by 2020.

It's no secret that Berlin is cheaper than many of its European counterparts. Office overheads and the price of living are cheaper, which makes it a very attractive place for tech entrepreneurs. Home to HelloFresh, Delivery Hero, and Soundcloud we expect many more household names to be coming out of Berlin in the next few years.
