Committed to delighting its customers every step of the way, Wayfair is reinventing the way people shop for their homes – from product discovery to final delivery.

The Catalog Foundations Expansion department improves Merchandising operations by efficiently building workflows and tooling for operators, and builds Merchandising-wide services to serve discrete needs such as translations, market localization and product findability (which products live in each store).

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Engineering Manager to join our Catalog Foundations Expansion team who would work on solving complex problems and building highly scalable applications. Your impact will drive efforts to tackle some of the most challenging problems we face as we continue to create a best-in-class shopping experience for our customers.

As a team member of the Catalog Foundations Expansion, you will have the option to work with one of our great teams below.

The Merchandising Workflows Team’s mission is to provide reliable, secure & scalable solutions that improve merchandising. We develop tools and services that allow our in-house and offshore teams to grow the Wayfair product catalog. By providing efficient and scalable workflow infrastructure, our operators can expand and protect our Brands. This enables our customers to find products through brands they come to know and love.

The Findability Engineering helps maximize the revenue potential of our Catalog and make sure that all products Wayfair has invested in are findable to the customer across all properties. To do that, we serve the comprehensive findability information to a spectrum of other engineering teams, build services that are able to detect abnormal and impactful drops from sites, and empower fast root causing, and wherever possible, fix drops from the site automatically.

  • Hire and develop both inclusive and collaborative high-performing engineering teams
  • Develop your team(s) members’ skills and careers
  • Prioritize and optimize for sustainable time-to-value and high-quality engineering.
  • Take calculated risks and manage trade-offs, articulating and taking accountability for the short and long-term consequences with partners
  • Provide technical insight and judgment of feature/schedule/cost trade-offs
  • Maintain and continuously improve agile delivery and engineering practices
  • Lead collaborative design and architecture discussions ensuring different perspectives are considered and ensure trade-offs and risks are well understood

What we look for in you

  • You have an established track record in people and technical leadership

  • Software development experience covering system design, programming, algorithms, performance, architecture, testing, monitoring, deployment and 24/7 operations. Knowledge of and experience with Java, C#, PHP is an advantage.

Location

Berlin is the capital and the largest city in Germany and well-known for its amazing festivals, exciting nightlife and a high quality of living. With a population of 3.7 million it is only second to London in the Europe Union, even with one-third of the city's area being composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers, canals and lakes. Berlin is a city with a deep history, Bismarck, Marx, Einstein, JFK and Bowie, they’ve all shaped – and been shaped by – Berlin.

Often referred to as Europe's newest start-up capital, a new start-up is founded every 20 minutes. The startup industry is set to produce 100,000 new jobs by 2020.

It's no secret that Berlin is cheaper than many of its European counterparts. Office overheads and the price of living are cheaper, which makes it a very attractive place for tech entrepreneurs. Home to HelloFresh, Delivery Hero, and Soundcloud we expect many more household names to be coming out of Berlin in the next few years.

Did you know...

  • The average salary for a Software Engineer in Berlin is €58,765 per year
  • Berlin is the second most populous city in the EU
  • 250+
