Learning Clojure is considered to be an overwhelming task. But every myth should be debunked. The Freshcode team has tried to end neverending stories that impede newcomers to become invincible Clojure developers.
While you are being skeptical about your abilities in the study and practice of Clojure, the programming world loses one more Clojurian you could become.
Switching to functional programming is not an easy task but also is not rocket science (seems to be). It is quite amenable to mastery on the condition that you have enough time, desire, internet access, and coffee :). And all joking aside, Clojure is not elvish (and not a language for “grumpy old programmers”) and is completely available for studying. No doubt, you will enjoy its syntax and become a full-fledged native Clojure speaker.
Here you can be inspired by true stories about the early stages of learning Clojure made by a Freshcode developer. By the way, as an argument against the age myth, we can take our personal experience. The average age of our Clojure team is 25 years, and there are already strong middle developers among them.
The current Clojure development process is community-driven. And every newcomer is welcoming in the fellowship of Clojurians. You’ll never walk alone. The ever-evolving community actively interacts via different internet resources and helps beginners to deal with the challenges they face.
There are some rough edges that can make difficulties within Clojure mastering: functional programming paradigm, unfamiliar syntax, "dealing with all those parentheses". However, once mastered with help of experienced community members, it will be very convenient for coding.
There are many good resources for learning Clojure that pop up around the internet. Some of them are paid, but fortunately, many of the good resources are free.
P. S: Our developer recommends "Clojure for the Brave and True" by Daniel Higginbotham and "The Joy of Clojure" by Michael Fogus and Chris Houser.
The demand for Clojure developers in the marketplace was never fulfilled owing to the shortage of highly skilled developers. So demand is permanently higher than the supply and Clojure programmer vacancies are required in the field of full-stack web development.
